iLoader update 1.9.5 got rejected!

I got an email from Apple’s review team two days ago saying that they can’t post the iLoader update because iLoader didn’t implement the HTTP Live Streaming protocol when watching videos from Facebook.  Apple requires that any app that stream videos more than 10 mins over the cellular network to use the HTTP Live Streaming. HTTP Live Streaming protocol is where you have a few different versions of the video on the server from lowest to highest quality and each video is split up into small chunks.  That gives the iPhone flexibility base on the network condition to request the appropriate video quality.  The problem is that, iLoader is consuming videos from Facebook which I don’t have control over how the video is served. I have been talking with the Apple’s technical team and they basically give me two workarounds.

1. Only allow users to watch videos that are under 10 mins

2. Allow watching videos over Wifi only

Option 1 will require some work.  Option 2 is easy to implement but every inconvenient for iLoader’s users and make the feature pretty much useless.  I’m leaning toward option 1 and I’m trying to come up with a solution so stay tune.  In the meantime, I will try to make a quick fix to FaceVideo while coming up with a solution for iLoader because it has been pending for awhile.  Sorry about that FaceVideo users!

Keep trying. I think option 1 would be fine. I don’t usually watch video’s that are 10 min. long, anyway. I use this app every day to upload photos – it’s so much faster than FB’s options, and it hasn’t lost a pic of mine yet! I could utilize option 2, but I have the 3G/Wifi iPad. A lot of people don’t. I’m stickin’ with you.

    Sydster,
I think there are not a lot of videos that are longer than 10 mins too. I figure out a solution for it already so I should put out a fix soon.
    thanks!

Just my opinion, but I don’t use iLoader to watch FB videos and would really not miss it if it were gone. I didn’t buy iLoader to watch videos, I bought it to upload batches of photos. I just would like to see the login bug fixed (everytime I start the app fresh, I get asked to login to FB). Thanks.

    Bob,
Thanks for your feedback. I know what you mean that iLoader’s main function is batch upload photos and videos but watching video is there so if I remove it now, it’s going to cause some issue. The login bug is already fix in the update that I submitted.

    Op. 1………sounds fine!

Option #1 is good for me. As with some other users, the batch photo upload is why I use iLoader. It’s the best photo uploader I’ve found yet! Thank you for an awesome app!

    Todd/Selizzle,
Yep, Option 1 is what I’m going to do. Thanks for confirming it.

    Fay,
Have you try deleting and re-downloading the app? That should work. I will do a post later with more detail on how to track down some of this problem so stay tune.
